PHP Developer

Gorilla is seeking a PHP web developer who is preferably experienced with the Magneto e-commerce platform.  Successful applicants will have significant experience writing object-oriented PHP, working with MySQL database systems, and configuring/maintaining LAMP-based web servers.  The ideal candidate will have existing experience installing, configuring, and maintaining Magento websites, as well as experience customizing and extending out-of-the-box Magento functionality according to accepted best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Gorilla team on new Magento projects, from initial business development and discovery phases through implementation and deployment of the completed project.
  • Install and configure the Magento e-commerce platform for new projects.
  • Maintain and enhance existing Magento websites while adhering to accepted Magento best practices.
  • Create custom Magento modules or other new functionality using object-oriented PHP and the Magento APIs.
  • Configure and maintain Linux-based web servers optimized for the Magento platform.
  • Work with Gorilla’s designers to implement custom skins and templates for the Magento front-end.
  • Understand and effectively communicate Magento features and limitations with regard to design and development decisions on new projects.
  • Help manage the design and development process, drive decisions, and coordinate efforts with fellow Gorillas.

Requirements

  • Significant PHP experience, including experience building object-oriented websites in PHP and familiarity with popular MVC frameworks such as Zend Framework.
  • Solid experience interacting with MySQL database systems through abstraction layer (in addition to the ability to write raw SQL queries).
  • Solid experience using PHP to create and consume web services (SOAP, XML-RPC) and/or other experience implementing data integrations within the Magento platform.
  • Experience using Linux to maintain and configure Apache/MySQL web servers.  Additional Linux command line skills also a plus.
  • Front-end development experience with strong Javascript skills (including frameworks/libraries such as jQuery) as well as familiarity with accepted CSS and HTML design standards.
  • Strong people and project management skills. Must be able to function as a project leader as well as an individual contributor.
  • A keen interest in emerging technologies and how they might impact future design decisions and strategic directions.
  • An appreciation for good design and exquisite typography in almost any context.

Preferred

  • Previous experience working with the Magento e-commerce platform or OSC.
  • Back of the hand knowledge of Magento best practices including extending existing functionality, creating custom modules, and working with the available APIs.
  • Working experience with the eCommerce development process, and the ability to create solutions for common questions/concerns on this type of platform.
  • Ability to come up with accurate development estimates based on high-level business and/or technical requirements.
  • Understanding of common web analytics suites (Google Analytics, Omniture) and experience implementing these systems.
  • Experience working with the SVN version control system.
  • Comfortable researching and adopting new web technologies.
  • Familiar with SEO / SEM best practices
  • Back of the hand knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and standard business applications such as MS Office Suite, Powerpoint, etc.
